About Us

Welcome to Sanctuary Church, we’re a church built on community, people and purpose. Whether you’re already part of our church or just starting your journey, our goal is to bring people from all walks of life together to encounter, connect and create purpose.

Our heart as a church is to an build atmosphere where people can experience the tangible power and presence of the Holy Spirit. We believe every faith journey starts with a personal encounter with God. These are the moments where faith is stirred and lives are changed because one encounter can change everything.

Our heart is that the local church would be a community of believers, not just a collection of individuals. Being planted in Godly community is the only way we can truly experience the full plans and purpose of God for our lives. The church is a family where people grow together, serve together, and carry one another through every season.

God has a purpose for your life – and it’s bigger than you think. Church is not just about attending a service, but rather about being equipped so that you can lead others into an encounter with God, and help them to find Godly community. This is the reason we were born, and as you step into their purpose, others will be inspired to do the same.

Many Hands Make Light Work

Sanctuary church has existed in many different names for 35 Years explore the history of us.

1986
The History of Living Waters
Peter Barr had a vision from God for Kawana Waters, while he himself was in in Singapore. He saw fire of revival for the area.

In Jan 1992 the Church bought the land at 6 Kawana Island Boulevard and became an AOG church. The following year, the building process started and the church and child care centre was opened.
The first service was Dec 12, 1993.

the beginning of harvest church
Harvest Church began it's journey in March 1989, by Sanctuary Church's Senior Pastors, Ashley & Alison Goode. A church that started by gathering in the Mooloolaba Pub each Sunday. Every Friday night for 4 years, they gathered to fast and pray, believing for God to touch the city of the Sunshine Coast.1989

OPENING THE COMMUNITY CARE FACILITY (Now life care)
As our church grew, so too did our capacity to respond to the real and practical needs within our city. Out of this growth, Community Care was established, a dedicated expression of compassion to serve individuals and families in times of crisis and need.

What began as a simple emergency relief pantry has become a trusted place of care, offering food, support, and a listening ear to those doing it tough. Life Care exists to be a safe space for the vulnerable, providing practical help and dignity in the face of hardship.

In addition to food support, our team helps connect people with appropriate services, such as counseling, housing support, and financial advice, ensuring that no one walks alone. With the support of our Op Shops and in partnership with our church community, this facility continues to grow, extending the love of Christ through action and empowering hope in the heart of our community.

THE BEGINNING OF LIFE CHURCH
The combination of the history of two churches joined in 2013 when the Harvest Church congregation joined Hope Church at the Warana facility. To mark the new season, both organizations were closed down and the church that was birthed was named to Life Church.

THE TRANSITION TO Sanctuary CHurch
Life Church continued to grow over the decade to the point where the current facilities were no longer adequate. We purchased the iconic Sunshine Coast site of the Deer Sanctuary in 2019, with our new facility being completed mid 2025.

THE OPENING OF Sanctuary CHurch
We lean in the future with expectancy and honor the past of those you came before us. In honor of the site and biblical reference to the name of the House of God, we are calling our new home “Sanctuary Church”. We celebrate that we are moving into the Sanctuary with 75 years of combined service to the Sunshine Coast and look forward to all that God has for His Church in the future.

Our plan is to expand our space so that our capacity is to bring care, dignity, and connection to our city is increased. We look forward to sharing more details as they become available and continue to seek ways to meet the evolving needs of our community.
